Planting our vegetable garden

On Wednesday the 3rd of November we started planting and loosening our smaller patch. We put tunnels up for the tomatoes and carrots. We also put small thin stakes into the ground for the climbing beans to coil around. We shoveled some smelly manure into the smaller patch for fertilizer. We are going to plant the pumpkins in the compost.

planting seeds

We have been making pots out of newspaper because when you put them in the ground they disintegrate. Plastic is not good because its uses up the oil resources to make the plastic.

We filled the pots with soil and planted seeds. We planted climbimg beans, tomatoes, lettuces, radishes, peas and pumpkin.

We planted them indoors to begin with because its warmer and less windy and rainy.

Mrs Vasdev's UK Trip

Hi everyone
We arrived safely in the UK last Sunday after 26 hours on the plane. We went from Christchurch to Sydney to Bankok to Dubai to London. See if you can follow my route on the world map. The weather here is really hot and sunny, about 27 degrees every day.
On Tuesday we went to the school I used to work at and Rianna waited for her best friend Caitlin. She ran up behind her and surprised her.
Yesterday we played crazy golf in the morning, and went boating on the lake in the afternoon.
On Sunday we're flying up to Edinburgh for a week in Scotland.
I hope you're all working hard. I bet you're looking forward to your holidays next week.
Send me a message on the blog.
Bye for now

Edible Garden Project

This is some of room 5 kids digging and loosening the dirt.
Our class has been working on our garden for our topic last term.

Well our edible garden project is going well so far.
We did a survey to see what vegetables people like. The most popular vegetables were carrots potatoes and corn.

We also wrote letters to see if we could get the resources and help we need. We have turned up the soil and Jo's dad put some raised edging. We also have new soil to put in. It is arriving tomorrow. We will also put some of our compost in as well.

People Who Work In School.

Hi readers! I'm going to tell you who works in Lochiel school. There are only two rooms in Lochiel since there are few students there.

First, I'll start with Mrs. Cummings who teaches year 1-3 in room 1.

There's a few teachers that teach in Room 5 sometimes. But mostly it is Mrs.Vasdev and sometimes Mr.Page our principal. They teach year 4, 5, 6 and 7.

The next one is Mrs.Thompson. She teaches extension class and is a teacher aide. We also have a teacher aide called Mrs Alexander who helps JH.

And finally we have Mrs. Mc Callum who is our school secretary .

Last term for extension we did computers. We made calenders on the computer.
The teacher that take us is Mrs Thompson.

Lochiel School

Lochiel School has been here for 131 years.

When it first started it was called The Forest Hill Railway Crossing School. The school commitee decided to change the name because it was too long.  They changed it to Elderslie School. On the third and final change they changed it to Lochiel School.

message to Room 5

Great to see you are getting on with the blogging.
just a couple of reminders -
1) remember to put your initials at the bottom of your posting so we know who wrote it.

2) save the draft of your blog ( do not post it straight away)so it can be checked before you post it. There are quite a few mistakes coming up.

If you are the first to read this message please read it out loud to the rest of the class.

Keep up the good work

Hello Room 5 - Happy Blogging

This is the start of your blog!
Thank you for your thinking and ideas this morning. It was great working with you.

Your next challenge is to work out a timetable to fit into your class programme so that everyone in your class makes a blog entry before i come out to see you in week 6 of the term.
Use your PMIs and your Blog plans to help you work out what you want to add.
I will see you in week 6 to work out where to go from there and maybe add some trickier bits and pieces with you.

Happy blogging.
MG

ideas are great -be sure they have time to grow.
